Jets™ awarded large contract for Fjord Line’s two new cruise ferries
(Tuesday, September 21, 2010)
Norwegian vacuum sanitation company Jets™ has been awarded the contract for delivery of vacuum toilet systems for two modern, well-equipped cruise ferries to shipping company Fjord Line. The two ferries, each with accommodation for 1,500 passengers and vehicle decks for 600 cars, will be delivered from the Bergen Group Fosen shipyard to Fjord Line in 2012.
Each ship is designed with 300 passenger cabins and 70 crew cabins, as well as large common areas, and Jets™ will supply 400 toilets per vessel. The contract also includes a total of four Jets™ 195MBA vacuum generating units featuring the company’s own Vacuumarator™ pumps.
- Other international sanitary suppliers also tried to win this contract, but eventually Jets™ was chosen. Needless to say we are excited about the contract, particularly because the yard has used our solutions on previous occasions. Bergen Group Fosen built the two Hurtigruten ships Midnatsol and Trollfjord, both of which are equipped with Jets™ systems, so they know our technology and products very well, says CEO Jan Tore Leikanger of Jets™.
- In the global maritime community, Jets™ has a good reputation for low life cycle costs, high reliability and quality. This is one of the reasons why we continue to win contracts in a highly competitive market, Leikanger says.
Increased capacity between Norway and Denmark
The two new 4,000 DWT cruise ferries are so-called RoPax ships, and will sail between western Norway and Denmark. The older Fjord Line ferry sailing the route today will be replaced by the new ships. With 11 decks and a length of 170 meters (557 feet) the ships will tower in port, while their on-board restaurants, cafes and conference centers will keep passengers entertained at sea.

The Jets™ group
Since the late 1980s, the Jets™ group has supplied the world's leading products in maritime sanitary technology. Today the group has more than half the world market for vacuum sanitary systems in this segment.
The technology has also been used very successfully onshore, and has vast potential for growth in land based markets where considerations like environment, water savings and water costs are growing ever more important.
