Jets™ supports student enterprise Atech SB
(Tuesday, May 10, 2011)
The student enterprise Atech SB, established by students of Ålesund University College, has developed a decontamination system to remove oil from bilge water on board ships. The system employs an existing filter design in a new way and in a new area of use, making the installation of Atech's solution on all types of ships with bilge water oil separators a simple process.
Sole Nordic representative in Hong Kong
In June this year, the students of Atech SB will represent Ålesund University College and the maritime cluster of Sunnmøre, Norway, at a global business plan competition hosted by the Polytec University of Hong Kong, as the sole Nordic representative. The following month, they are scheduled to participate at the European Championships of student enterprises in Madrid. Jets™ has donated NOK 5.000 to cover some of the travel expenses, so the students of Atech can show their technology to an international audience.
Strengthens the Sunnmøre region
- That amount may not be much, but at the very least it is a small token of our support to a group of people who develop new technology in the Sunnmøre region. It is important for local companies that this kind of development takes place here in the maritime cluster, to maintain - and strengthen - local competence, and hence local businesses. This in turn ensures a broad and attractive range of employers in the long run, which is necessary to attract the best minds in competition with other regions, says public relations officer Jan Kenneth Steinsåker of Jets™.
Environment as a common platform
- Both Jets and Atech are responsible for technologies that in different ways have a very positive impact on the environment, and so we obviously want to contribute to spreading the word on Atech's system. They have a solution that can definitely keep our oceans cleaner, with close to zero oil emissions from bilge water. Zero emissions is also a goal for Jets™ and our sanitary systems, so you may say that environmental considerations is the guiding star for both companies. That's why we hope that Atech will give the competitors a run for their money in both Hong Kong and Madrid, Steinsåker says.
